Support for our young people
I’ve been finding out more concerning facilities and provision for our young people in Hamble and Netley recently after several worrying incidents in our area over the summer months. Engaging with our young people has to be an important concern; the need is to support them and help them feel part of the community.
I’ve been interested to learn that the County Council fund a Youth Options service, which spends three nights per week in the peninsula, rotating between the three parishes of Bursledon, Hamble and Netley.
So far, this has been outreach work but, I am informed, they are likely to bring the service to community centres as the nights draw in. Eastleigh Borough Council has offered to subsidise this service from the budget that has been used for this purpose, but to date there has been no call for it. As the County Council are going to be reducing their funding again, this can be looked at again.
Looking to the future, the new funding for the Hamble Sports complex is based on a Community Use Agreement that will give access to youth services. Youth engagement is an important issue for our area and a new project in Netley is underway that will include this as a priority.
